Water stains and stains on the surface of composite boards and natural wood — a common problem faced by owners of terraces, garden decks and wooden facades. In order to fight these stains competently and effectively, it is important to understand why they occur and how to prevent them.
The composite decking board consists of 40% of protective polymers and 60% of wood flour. Thanks to this composition, the material combines the strength of wood with the resistance of modern polymers. However, even composite coverings can develop water stains on poor quality composite decking, especially if the surface has micropores or is poorly protected. Water lingers, penetrates the structure, and noticeable water stains appear on light-colored areas.
Natural wood, unlike composite wood, is much more sensitive to moisture. Water stains on wood are often caused by insufficient surface treatment or natural wear and tear of the protective coatings. Moisture penetrates deeper, activating tannins — tannins that cause dark tannin stains, especially on oak, larch and other species with a high content of these compounds.
Weather conditions and operating conditions have a direct impact on the appearance of water stains. Frequent precipitation, high humidity, lack of ventilation contribute to the retention of moisture on the surface. If the surface does not dry quickly after rain, water stains are inevitable.
Also, improper care — use of aggressive cleaners, harsh sponges — can damage the protective layer, which facilitates moisture penetration and stains.
It is worth noting separately the products of the company Oleprof. Oleprof composite board does not leave any stains even when exposed to water for a long time thanks to the unique production technology. The polymer layer reliably protects the wood flour inside the material, preventing the appearance of water stains on the composite board and providing an aesthetic appearance throughout the entire service life.
To minimize water stains on composite board and wood, clean the surface regularly with a soft brush and water. After rainfall or watering, wipe the decking with a dry cloth to prevent moisture from stagnating. For natural wood, use special oils and impregnations to prevent water penetration and protect against tannin stains.
If water stains do appear, remove them with a soft sponge and soapy water solution, avoiding abrasive materials. In case of heavy soiling, use special cleaners for wood or composite that are safe for the material structure.

Timely maintenance, proper treatment and the choice of quality materials, such as Oleprof composite board, will help to maintain the aesthetic appearance of the surface for many years to come.
